Can you believe how fast 2021 flew by? I can’t believe it’s already over. I can still remember being in my basement in 2020 getting shaken by an earthquake (Utah gets shaken up every now and then) and having the world shut down because of COVID.
In some ways 2021 has been worse than 2020, but in many ways it has been better. In today’s post I wanted to highlight what we did in 2021 and some of our goals for 2022. I do this to not only document my own journey with Civil Engineering Academy but to help show you what’s coming and we are excited about. There may be a few things you didn't know that you might find useful too - who knows!
I want to first start out by talking about our podcast, The Civil Engineering Academy Podcast. I started this on a whim and it’s really taken off as one of our most enjoyable and fun projects. Our first podcast of the year was published on January 7th featuring Zdenek Vymazol. If you haven’t heard his story you should. He was able to pass the PE exam well into his 60’s and had taken it multiple times. He found our course, The Ultimate Civil PE Review Course and was finally able to pass the exam. He shares his tips for passing and his journey in this episode that can be found right here.
Our most listened to podcast episode was The Highest Paid Civil Engineering Industries that can be found HERE. In this episode we talk about which industries within civil engineering pay the most. You might be surprised what you find and it may change what lane you might want to be in.
We have interviewed three star generals to presidents of companies to students still in school. We love hearing everyone’s journey into the civil engineering world and know that value can be added to your life by sharing your story and listening to others.
We especially love sharing FE and PE tests taking tips from our students. If you ever wanted to be on our show just email me and we’ll get you scheduled 🙂 Also, for those taking the PE exam in 2022 check out this episode where we answer all your questions about the exam going CBT in 2022!
With COVID the CBT exam for the PE was pushed into 2022. With that the very last paper based PE exam was administered in October of 2022. I guess we can say see you later to suitcases full of books and now you’ll be looking towards the PE Civil Reference Handbook and the codes applicable to your depth exam as your only tools at your disposal.
For our course, The Ultimate Civil PE Review Course, we started updating modules and slides to reflect the use of the new handbook. This is still an ongoing process but this is a major change for the PE. Our aim is to have that done by Q1 in 2022.
We should also mentioned that were awarded the #1 Civil PE Review Course by Test Prep Insights and we aim to keep up that ranking! You can check out the article here.
Congratulations to those that passed the exam in October of 2021 and here’s to passing in 2022!
Our FE course, The Ultimate Civil FE Review Course, is still rocking and helping hundreds of students ace their civil FE exams. We have continued to add new practice problem videos to the library of problems as well so that you can get more practice. If you ever wanted a simple free training on how to prepare, take, and pass the civil FE exam then go join up on this on-demand webinar where Mark and I walk you through it all. You can find that right here.
We also continue to add more problems to our YouTube channel for free, but if you want to avoid the commercials AND get more problems then the course is for sure where you want to be!
I already mentioned our rankings from Test Prep Insights as being ranked the #1 course for PE study prep. We were pumped and excited about that. We also earned another award in 2021 from the WRECONF held in Las Vegas, NV. Civil Engineering Academy was listed as the Top 100 Leaders in Real Estate and Construction Awards. I guess we are helping produce some fine professional engineers out there in the world and some recognition came our way for it. We are humbled by the recognition and excited about the future of CEA.
There are plenty of things to update and keep the ball moving but earning things along the way is always nice to see.
Speaking of creating problems - we recently added a new team member to help with creating video practice problems so you have more exposure and experience. Cody Sims has joined the CEA team to help with making problems to help you with your exams.
You may know Cody from two podcast episodes we did with him. We liked him so much we brought him onboard to help write up problems!
Cody brings his fun attitude to solving complex exam problems and we’ve enjoyed all he has created. If you want to check out some of his problems head on over to our YouTube channel which you can find right here.
Cody is currently a EIT and working toward his PE. He helps to write FE type problems and is a go-getter.
As we continue into 2022 we are excited at CEA for a few things going on. First and foremost is the latest course we have been working on, The Ultimate Seismic and Survey Review Course, and by we I mean Mark Oakeson. We are aiming to share it with the world in 2022. The survey and seismic exam that is required to earn your PE license from California is no joke and we are excited to share that with you as we get closer to releasing it. Sign up here to be the first to hear about it when we launch!
We continually produce content for our podcast and will continue that in 2022 as well as our YouTube channel. We are updating our PE course for CBT and look to be revamping the depth course we have offered soon.
We hope you enjoy the content we have produced in 2021 and we look forward to what 2022 brings us. Here’s to you becoming a professional engineer and reaching your career goals and dreams!
See you next time.
